FAQs

Where can I buy Racing with Rich Energy?

We have a page on our book’s website dedicated to ordering information, but here are the basics:

  • American buyers can purchase from McFarland, Amazon, or their local booksellers.

  • International buyers can purchase from Amazon or Eurospan — just search the book’s title on Eurospan.

  • There is a Kindle ebook version available on Amazon. Just search the title under the “Kindle” filter!

Will there be an audiobook?

We do intend to release an audiobook! Elizabeth and Alanis prioritize accessibility and have been working hard to release Racing with Rich Energy in an audio format.

Currently, the only audio format available is via Kindle’s text-to-speech feature. We know this isn’t ideal, but we have to outsource the recording of the ebook — but that process is currently underway! We’ll update you when we know more.

Will there be autographed copies available for sale?

We do intend to sell autographed copies in the near future, but Elizabeth and Alanis are still working out the logistics of how we intend to do so. Please stay tuned — we'll let you know as soon as we have an answer!

Why isn't Racing with Rich Energy available on Amazon in my country?

We have experienced a few issues with the listings’ metadata when it comes to international Amazon pages, so the book will occasionally become unavailable in certain countries while it remains available in others.

If this happens, you can always place an order via McFarland in the Americas or via Eurospan in the rest of the world! These listings should remain active — and they often ship quicker than Amazon, too!

If you continue to experience issues regarding availability in your country, please email us at richenergybook@gmail.com so we can get to the bottom of it.

Why does Amazon say Racing with Rich Energy is unavailable?

There is likely one of two reasons for this: We've either sold out of a print run, or there has been an error with the listing's metadata. In either case, you can place an order directly through McFarland in the Americas, or via Eurospan elsewhere in the world. These orders immediately register with our publisher to let them know we need more copies!

Why did the book's price increase on Amazon?

When Racing with Rich Energy is in stock, it is set to sell for a certain amount of money on Amazon. However, if the stock gets low, Amazon can increase the price based on demand in an effort to get buyers to spend more money on a ‘rarer’ book. Other people can also re-sell their copy of our book on Amazon, with their own pricing. (It's the same reason why out-of-print books can sell for more than their initial retail value on Amazon!)

These price changes do not come from the authors or from McFarland. If you notice the price of the book has increased on Amazon, please place an order through McFarland or Eurospan; those prices should remain fixed.

Why is my international order shipping after the American orders?

McFarland is a small publisher based in North Carolina, with international orders outsourced to Eurospan and Amazon. Essentially, this means that McFarland must print the books in America, then ship them over to Eurospan, who will then take on the remainder of global distribution. As a result, we expect a 2-4 week delay on international distribution when compared to American distribution. We're so sorry for the delay — but if you’re eager to read the book ASAP, we do recommend the Kindle ebook version!

What’s the best way to buy from you?

You all have shown so much incredible support, and we appreciate everyone who has asked the best way to support us (McFarland, too, was blown away by the sheer number of pre-orders we received straight from the publisher!). The publishing industry works a little like this:

  • Authors receive the most money from your purchase if you order directly from the publisher; however, publisher data can be falsified, so these purchase numbers are treated with a little suspicion when it comes to collecting overall sales data.

  • Purchasing from a third-party retailer like Amazon or ordering from your local indie bookstore sees a little bit of the authors’ cut sent to the middleman — but those sales figures often translate directly into overall sales data (and performance rankings!).

As first-time authors, Elizabeth and Alanis will benefit from your purchase either way. We appreciate you purchasing right from McFarland, which financially benefits us and the company. We appreciate you ordering from your local bookstores, which helps benefit your area’s literary community. We also appreciate orders coming from Amazon that push us up the sales ranks on the site! There’s really no bad way to buy.

Why can’t I find the Kindle ebook?

Amazon has two listings for Racing with Rich Energy: one for the paperback book and one for the Kindle ebook. If you haven’t seen the ebook on Amazon, try searching exclusively within the Kindle section! It should narrow your options right down for you.

It says my order is backordered. When will there be more copies available for sale?

While we totally sold out of our first print run and are currently backordered, our publisher is already hard at work on additional print runs! We'll keep publishing more books as long as there's a demand for new orders.

We can’t thank McFarland enough for their hard work. They pushed Racing with Rich Energy to the top of the priority list to guarantee our initial buyers would have books in hand for the USGP. As a smaller publisher, their print runs are a bit smaller than you might see for a larger outfit, but we cannot speak highly enough about the dedication McFarland has shown to getting copies out to you ASAP!

We don’t have exact printing dates for additional runs, but we expect the second and possibly third runs to be completed and shipped out well before the end of October.

Are there any signings, release parties, or meetups?

Right now, our only meet-up will take place at Circuit of the Americas during the United States Grand Prix weekend. We plan to meet at COTA's Main Plaza at 12 p.m. local time on Saturday, October 22.

Right now, our Saturday USGP meetup is the only one that we have planned. While we considered hosting some off-track events, we also know how action-packed a race weekend can be, and we don’t want you to sacrifice your experience of the event or the city of Austin on our behalf.

We chose Saturday at noon for plenty of reasons: It doesn’t conflict with school or work hours, it takes place two hours before F1’s first on-track session of the day, and it shouldn’t cause anyone to miss out on any good race-day general admission spots!

If you’re planning on hanging out with us at the track, don’t forget to bring your copy of Racing with Rich Energy! Due to the number of orders we’ve received, Alanis and Elizabeth can’t guarantee we’ll have many copies available for purchase at the track!

Are you available for interviews, podcasts, or other promos?

Yes! Please email us at richenergybook@gmail.com any time to coordinate something!
